What is NZeTA visa for Austria?

Before October 1, 2019, it was not necessary to have a New Zealand eTA before traveling to the country. As Austrians, you belong to the so-called Visa Waiver countries. Upon entering, you were only checked whether you met the requirements for entering, and then you received an (electronic) stamp in your passport, and you were allowed to stay in the country for 3 months.

What are requirements of New Zealand eTA from Austria?

To apply for a New Zealand eTA from Austria, there are several requirements that need to be met. Austrian citizens must have a valid passport with a minimum validity of three months beyond the intended departure date from New Zealand. Additionally, travelers must provide their contact details and address while in New Zealand.

It is crucial for applicants to have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay in New Zealand and hold a return ticket or onward travel documentation. Moreover, individuals must not have any criminal convictions or pose a potential security risk to the country.

Health requirements, such as being free from tuberculosis at the time of travel, are also essential. However, meeting these criteria doesn't guarantee approval, as final decisions regarding the eTA application rest with immigration officials.

Who Needs an NZeTA and How to Apply for One?

If you're an Austrian citizen planning a trip to New Zealand, you may need to apply for a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before your departure. The eTA is mandatory for tourists and travelers from visa-waiver countries, including Austria.

To apply for the NZeTA, all you need is access to the internet, a valid passport, and a credit or debit card to make a payment. The application process is straightforward and can be completed online through the official NZeTA website.

When filling out the online form, make sure to provide accurate personal information and details about your travel plans. You may also be asked to upload supporting documents such as your passport bio page and a recent photograph.

Once submitted, most applications are processed quickly, usually within 72 hours. Upon approval, you will receive your NZeTA via email which should be presented upon arrival in New Zealand alongside your passport.

When traveling to New Zealand on an NZeTA, Austrian citizens should be aware of the activities not allowed during their stay. It is important to note that working or studying in New Zealand is prohibited while on an NZeTA. Furthermore, it is essential to respect the environment and wildlife by refraining from harming or disturbing any natural habitats or species.
