New Zealand eTA Visa for Austrian Citizens

Austrian citizens planning to visit New Zealand must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before travelling. Prior to October 2019, Austrians could enter New Zealand visa-free, but the NZeTA is now mandatory for all tourism, transit and business visits.

The good news — the NZeTA application for Austria is entirely online, takes just a few minutes to complete, and approval is sent directly to your email. No embassy visit or paper forms required.

What is the New Zealand eTA (NZeTA) for Austria?

The New Zealand eTA (Electronic Travel Authority) is a digital travel authorisation linked electronically to your Austrian passport. It is not a visa stamp or physical document — it is stored digitally and checked automatically when you check in for your flight to New Zealand.

With an NZeTA, Austrian citizens may visit New Zealand for tourism, short-term business, transit and certain short study programmes of up to 3 months. You cannot use an NZeTA to work, volunteer for payment, or enrol in full-time education exceeding 3 months.

Eligibility Conditions for NZeTA — Austrian Citizens

To qualify for a New Zealand eTA, Austrian citizens must meet the following NZeTA requirements:

  • Hold a valid Austrian passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your planned departure from New Zealand
  • Have a return or onward travel ticket
  • Have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay
  • Have no serious criminal convictions or pose a security risk
  • Be free from serious communicable diseases (e.g. tuberculosis) at the time of travel
