Andorra and the NZeTA: the short answer
If you hold an Andorran passport, you don't need a visa to visit New Zealand as a tourist or short-term business visitor. Andorra is on New Zealand's list of visa-waiver countries. Instead of a visa, you need a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA). It has been compulsory since 1 October 2019 for all visa-waiver travellers who arrive by plane, and for every cruise passenger.
The NZeTA is an online authorisation. You apply before you travel, the New Zealand immigration authorities assess your details, and you receive the outcome by email. Once approved, it is valid for up to 2 years, or until your passport expires if that comes first. You can use it for several trips during that time.
Because so few people travel from Andorra to New Zealand, some airline staff may be unfamiliar with Andorran passports. Having your NZeTA approval email ready on your phone or printed out makes check-in smoother.
Your Andorran passport: what to check
Before you start your NZeTA application, take out your passport and check three things:
- Expiry date. It must be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave New Zealand. If it expires sooner, renew it first. An NZeTA issued on an old passport cannot be moved to a new one.
- Name in the machine-readable zone. Copy your name exactly as it appears in the two lines of characters at the bottom of the photo page. Catalan names can include accents, hyphens or particles such as "i" between surnames. The machine-readable version drops accents, and that is the version to follow.
- Nationality. Many residents of Andorra hold Spanish, French or Portuguese nationality rather than Andorran citizenship. Your NZeTA must be based on the passport you will actually use to fly.
An Andorran national identity document is not a travel document for New Zealand. Only a valid passport is accepted, both for the NZeTA and at the border.
Getting to New Zealand from Andorra
Andorra has no international airport of its own, so your trip begins with a road journey. Most travellers drive or take a bus to Barcelona, which is about three hours away, or to Toulouse in France. From there, the usual long-haul routes to Auckland or Christchurch connect through a hub such as Dubai, Doha or Singapore. Some travellers also fly via North America.
Door to door, the trip often takes 30 hours or more. That means two important things for your NZeTA:
- Your NZeTA should be approved before you leave Andorra, because the airline in Barcelona or Toulouse checks it when you check in for a through-ticket.
- If your route lands in Auckland and you connect to another New Zealand city, you clear immigration in Auckland. Your NZeTA covers your whole visit.
New Zealand's seasons are the opposite of the Pyrenees. If you leave Andorra after the ski season ends in April, you'll arrive as the New Zealand autumn begins. December and January are summer in New Zealand.
Allowed and not allowed on an NZeTA

- Travel as a tourist for up to 90 days per visit
- Visit friends or relatives
- Attend meetings, trade fairs or conferences
- Take a course of up to 3 months
- Transit through Auckland Airport to another country
You can't
- Work for a New Zealand employer, including seasonal work
- Stay longer than 90 days on one visit
- Travel on a passport other than the one you applied with
- Use one NZeTA for a whole family

When to apply
Allow up to 72 hours for a decision. Most applications are faster, but some are referred for extra checks. You can choose a processing option when you apply:
- Normal: 48–72 hours
- Emergency: 24–48 hours
- Rush: 12–24 hours

At the New Zealand border
An NZeTA gives you permission to travel. It is not a guarantee of entry. When you land, a border officer decides whether to let you in. Have these ready:
- The passport linked to your NZeTA
- A return or onward ticket
- Evidence of enough money for your stay
- The address of your first night's accommodation
- Your New Zealand Traveller Declaration, a separate arrival form
Declare your food. Cured meats, mountain cheeses, honey and fresh produce are common in Andorran luggage. New Zealand's biosecurity rules are strict, and undeclared items can result in an instant fine.

Yes. Andorran citizens can visit New Zealand for up to 90 days without a visa, but they must hold an approved NZeTA before they travel by air or cruise ship.
